Matt Minton mminton@variety.com Colman Domingo will be honored with the Montecito Award at the 40th Annual Santa Barbara International Film Festival.

Domingo, who won the outstanding lead performance award at Monday’s Gothams, is set to receive the award on Feb. 14 as the festival celebrates his performance as Divine G in “Sing Sing.” “Colman is such a committed performer and of the most extraordinary talents in the small screen, in theatre and in film, and he makes it all seem effortless,” SBIFF executive director Roger Durling said. “His work in ‘Sing Sing’ is unforgettable.” In his review for Variety, Stephen Saito described how “Domingo gives a commanding performance.

Watching the light in Divine G’s eyes diminish even just a little amounts to a tragedy that ‘Sing Sing’ need not overstate.” Last year, Domingo was nominated for Best Actor at the Academy Awards for his turn as Bayard Rustin in Netflix’s “Rustin.” He was part of the ensemble cast in the film adaptation of the musical “The Color Purple,” which received a SAG Ensemble Nomination.

Domingo is also known for starring in “Euphoria,” “Zola,” “If Beale Street Could Talk,” “Selma” and “Candyman.” Previous recipients of the Montecito Award award include Jeffrey Wright, Penélope Cruz, Amanda Seyfried, Lupita Nyong’o, Melissa McCarthy, Saoirse Ronan, Isabelle Huppert, Sylvester Stallone, Jennifer Aniston, Oprah Winfrey, Daniel Day-Lewis, Geoffrey Rush, Julianne Moore, Kate Winslet, Naomi Watts and Javier Bardem.
