Gordon Brown in line to head Labour constitutional convention in bid to reform UK

Keir Starmer is expected to unveil soon.Sources hope the convention will produce a blueprint to reform the entire UK, including more powers for Holyrood.Under Nicola Sturgeon’s leadership, the SNP have a huge opinion poll lead and are on course for a Holyrood majority next year.The First Minister had said she will push for a second referendum in the early part of the next term.The SNP’s dominance is alarming the pro-UK parties who are worried about the increased support for independence.Starmer was scheduled to make a major speech this week on Scottish devolution but it was postponed amid concerns it could be overshadowed by the end stages of the Brexit negotiations.It is understood Starmer is planning to back a convention which would work.
