Glasgow ranked in the top 30 happiest cities on Earth

Glasgow has ranked among the happiest cities in the world, according to new research. The city beat out the likes of New York City, San Francisco and Honolulu, Hawaii to make it into the top 30.

The IVisa Happiest Cities to Travel index used five indicators of happiness to determine which city can guarantee a cheerful, carefree trip.

These include the most amount of sunshine (Glasgow definitely didn't score high in this), cost of living, life expectancy, friendliest locals and weekly working hours.

Glasgow ranked in 27th overall and was the only Scottish entry in the top 30.Speaking about the results, the IVisa team said: "Despite the pandemic, the UK’s appetite for travel overseas is strong with 61% of people still planning to go abroad in 2022."Luckily for UK travellers happiness is only a short plane ride away."With Lisbon taking the overall top spot, there were five entries from the UK in the top 30:Garret Stembridge, Head of Content at iVisa said: “This summer, travel is expected to see the biggest boost since the beginning of the pandemic."Although travel restrictions still exist, they will be the most flexible we have seen since the summer of 2020, encouraging travellers and holidaymakers to finally book flights for a well-deserved trip.“With travel expectations shifting considerably, we have designed the Happiness Index to help those travelling make a conscious decision on where to spend their summer holidays after a turbulent few years of confinement and restrictions.” Don't miss the top culture and heritage stories from around Scotland.
