Glasgow Airport suspicious package sees passengers 'evacuated' from terminal

Passengers at Glasgow Airport have been evacuated as police continue to work amid reports of a 'suspicious package'.Airport bosses have confirmed people have been instructed to leave parts of the building where police were called to around 6am on Monday December 6.Pictures and video from the scene show crowds being moved over to the car park, where a number of people have gathered already.Hundreds can be seen wrapped in tin foil blankets to keep warm, with officers helping airport staff manage traffic.

Two ambulances and two fire appliances have also been spotted parked outside the terminal building entrance.There are reports that some passengers are beginning to make their way home on buses and in taxis.

A large part of the terminal remains closed while safety checks are being carried out, with passengers warned to expect delays.No further information about the nature of the item is currently available.A statement from Glasgow Airport said: “At approximately 6am, Police Scotland attended the airport due to concern around an item in a passenger’s bag in the central search area."Access to this part of the terminal is currently restricted while checks are being carried out meaning passengers arriving at the airport for departing flights will face delays."We are liaising with Police Scotland and will provide an update as soon as we can.”A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Police and emergency services are currently in attendance at an ongoing incident at Glasgow Airport."The terminal building has been closed as a precaution, however, not evacuated.
