Russell Crowe has claimed that he may be blacklisted from royal events, sharing that he wasn't one of the celebrities to 'get the call' inviting him to attend King Charles' upcoming Coronation.The Gladiators actor, 59, is no stranger to royalty and has met Prince William and Harry, while also spending an evening with Charles back in 2003, but may not have had his royal etiquette on point.
And as preparations are well underway for the royal event, which will take place on Saturday and welcome stars such as Lionel Richie and Geordie duo Ant and Dec, Russell won't be heading for Westminster.
Admitting that his last meeting could have been the reason for the lack of invite, the New Zealand-born actor has recalled calling both second-in-line William and his brother Harry 'mate'. "It's probably due to last time I was introduced to royalty," began Russell while appearing on radio show Triple M Breakfast Brisbane.
He continued: "The equerry [an officer of the British royal household], he comes to talk to you and then goes, 'Listen, when you talk to a prince, you refer to them as this, this, this and this.' The thing is, that's just not in my DNA,' Crowe explained. "I'm always respectful and I'm always very pleased to meet people, but the "your highness" thing, it's just not in my nature.
