As the coronavirus continues to rapidly spread, more and more large-scale gatherings have been canceled in order to keep the public safe.
The latest to pull the plug on their event is the GLAAD Media Awards, which were scheduled to take place on March 19 in New York City.
The news comes following NY Governor Andrew Cuomo's update on COVID-19 Wednesday morning. In a statement announcing the cancellation, Rich Ferraro, GLAAD's chief communications officer and an executive producer of the GLAAD Media Awards noted that "We were planning to unveil a historic get-out-the-vote campaign at the event because everything is at stake for LGBTQ Americans this election year, and are hopeful that the program and GLAAD’s ongoing work to fight against
