An 11-year-old girl has been arrested on suspicion of assault after a teenager was left with serious head injuries in Tameside.

Police were called to a Stagecoach bus on Wellington Road in Ashton on Sunday evening (13 March) at around 6.20pm. A 15-year-old girl was taken to hospital with a head injury and was later discharged. A video which was said to document the assault unfolding was widely shared on social media but has since been deleted. Speaking to the M.E.N, the girl's auntie, Stacey Shepley said: "It's seriously affected her in a bad way her body is in full shock and she is scared to go out of the house. "As a family getting the phone call to get to her was horrible and I'll never forget the look on her face and the hug of relief and the horror the family went through. "We are so lucky to have her home and safe.

In a statement, GMP confirmed: "Officers were called to a report of an assault on a bus on Wellington Road in Ashton-under-Lyne at around 6.20pm on Saturday (13 March 2022).
