George Oakley says it’s a team effort to keep Ayr in the Championship title hunt. The hitman edged back to the top of United’s scoring charts with a deadly double that sunk Partick Thistle on Saturday. His brilliant headed double made it 14 goals for the season – moving him one ahead of Jay Henderson in the race for Somerset’s golden boot. And Oakley is adamant that the only prize that matters is three points each Saturday. He said: “There’s definitely no battle with Jay to see who scores the most goals.
What matters is that we’ve got a good understanding and a good partnership.“We were talking about it and I think between us we have now got 41 goal contributions this season, between goals and assists.
We’ve both scored a few and set some up for one another at times, too.“It has helped the team be where they want to be in the table, up there and fighting for top spot.
To get two goals was good but the main thing is that those two goals helped us win the game. That’s the main objective and is what we wanted to do.”Oakley was lethal in the first half of Saturday's contest, heading home sweet deliveries from Henderson and Connor McLennan.
