George Galloway claims he is in talks with three Labour MPs and a member of the House of Lords whom he hopes to recruit to his party.

The Rochdale MP and Workers Party of Britain leader warned a 'significant number' of councillors could also join by next week.

It comes as the first wave of parliamentary candidates selected to stand for the Workers Party - including 13 in Greater Manchester - was announced today (April 30).

Among them is former England cricketer Monty Panesar who will be running to be an MP in London. Mr Galloway said 500 candidates have now been selected to stand for his party at the general election.
