Gavin and Stacey fans rejoiced as a surprise drop of never-before-seen footage from the iconic fishing trip featuring Uncle Bryn and Jason aired during the special, Gavin and Stacey: A Fond Farewell.
Airing an hour-long episode filled with fan-favourite moments, the show included heartfelt tributes from celebrity admirers such as Minnie Driver, Richard Curtis, and Lena Dunham, while main cast members including James Corden and Ruth Jones took viewers on a nostalgic trip down memory lane, celebrating the show's 18-year run since its inception in 2007.Yet it was the elusive fishing trip, a long-running gag throughout the sitcom's initial three series, that stole the spotlight for many fans during the closing credits, the MEN reports.Captured in grainy camcorder-style footage, actors Rob Brydon who plays Bryn and Rob Wilfort as his nephew Jason are seen dressed in period-appropriate outfits and hairstyles, embarking on their notorious fishing trip.
The trip has been a significant source of tension throughout the entire sitcom with only Dave Coaches (Steffan Rhodri) knowing what actually happened on that day.
Each time the tale verges on revealing its secrets, sudden interruptions have kept the audience in the dark.In the newly-revealed clip, Brydon's character excitedly hails: "Who do we have here? " before cutting to Wilfort's Jason, triumphantly grasping a fish, followed by Bryn's jubilant exclamation: "No one will go hungry in this camp tonight." Before the footage abruptly ends, his joking comment: "Enjoy your soup! " can be heard.
