Steven George Gerrard MBE (born 30 May 1980) is an English professional football manager and former player who manages Scottish Premiership club Rangers.
He spent the majority of his playing career as a central midfielder for Liverpool, with most of that time spent as club captain, as well as captaining the England national team. Widely regarded as one of the greatest midfielders of all time,
Gerrard was awarded the UEFA Club Footballer of the Year award in 2005, and the Ballon d'Or Bronze Award. In 2009, Zinedine Zidane and Pelé said that they considered Gerrard to be the best footballer in the world.
Rangers can still field a team to see off Alashkert on Thursday. The Ibrox club have been rocked by positive Covid-19 tests in their camp ahead of the Europa League play-off second leg and a derby clash with Celtic at the weekend.
Rangers have not confirmed who returned the positive tests, but manager Steven Gerrard, captain James Tavernier, Ryan Kent, Calvin Bassey, Allan McGregor, John McLaughlin did not travel with the rest of the squad to Armenia.
John Lundstram and Kemar Roofe are suspended, while Fashion Sakala is not in the club's Europa League squad.It means assistant boss McAllister and coach Michael Beale will lead the team, with a number of youngsters from the B-team making the journey.
