Steven George Gerrard MBE (born 30 May 1980) is an English professional football manager and former player who manages Scottish Premiership club Rangers.
He spent the majority of his playing career as a central midfielder for Liverpool, with most of that time spent as club captain, as well as captaining the England national team. Widely regarded as one of the greatest midfielders of all time,
Gerrard was awarded the UEFA Club Footballer of the Year award in 2005, and the Ballon d'Or Bronze Award. In 2009, Zinedine Zidane and Pelé said that they considered Gerrard to be the best footballer in the world.
Joey Veerman has admitted defeat in his bid to leave Heerenveen this summer amid interest from Rangers. The midfielder was reportedly a top target of Steven Gerrard this summer and told his current club that he wanted to leave for a new challenge.
The 22-year-old has already been subject of bids from Hellas Verona in Serie A and Eredivise rivals Feyenoord and AZ Alkmaar this summer with Rangers waiting in the wings.
Heerenveen have stood firm amid the interest and demanding a fee in the region of €10million (£8.4million).Veerman claims that AZ are the latest side to have lodged a bid at around €4million, but states the club have turned the offer down.
