Gary Anderson is out of the Winmau World Masters after a frustrating return to the big stage. The Flying Scotsman was bundled out in the opening round by Belgian Dimitri Van den Bergh.

Anderson was back action for the first time since he went out of the World Championships at the first hurdle in a shock loss to Jeffrey De Graaf.

The Tartan star sustained a shoulder injury cutting down trees in the build-up to Ally Pally before being swept away by the Swede and was hoping to atone for those mishaps in the first ranking event of the 2025 campaign. However, despite a strong start to the contest at Arena MK, Anderson was eventually outgunned by Van den Bergh.

The Scot took the first set to make a perfect start to the contest, but was instantly pegged back by his rival and went behind when Van den Bergh held the darts in the third.More missed opportunities were costly for the Musselburgh man in the fourth set as he tumbled out of the competition in irritating fashion.Follow Record Sport on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram for all of the up-to-the minute breaking news, video and audio on the SPFL, the Scotland national team and beyond. You can also follow our dedicated Rangers and Celtic podcast pages and sign up to our newsletters to make sure you never miss a beat throughout the season.
