A major railway line near Manchester city centre will be closed for most of the day after a car landed on the tracks. Images show the wreckage of a car which landed on its roof on the tracks below the Regent Road roundabout, in Salford.
Emergency services were called out to the scene at around 2am today (February 7). Greater Manchester Police said the driver was arrested on suspicion of drink driving.
They were taken to hospital for assessment, but their injuries are not thought to be serious. Northern, TransPennine Express and Transport for Wales services between Newton-le-Willows and Manchester, via Eccles, have all been cancelled as a result of the crash.
Services between Wigan North Western and Manchester are also affected. Network Rail says the line will be closed for most of the day while the scene is cleared.
