More than 60 road or footpath improvements costing £9 million are being carried out in Trafford for the year ahead (2023/24).
Some £4.9m of the cash comes from the Department for Transport's City Region Sustainable Transport Settlement (CRSTS) and a further £3m has been contributed by Trafford council itself with an additional £516,000 from the Government's pothole action fund.
The authority has been allocated nearly £3m from the CRSTS for the following three years, but Trafford's own contribution and cash from the pothole action fund is yet to be determined.
In addition to highway maintenance, the council is applying for other funding that supports additional highway infrastructure linked to active travel including improvements to walking and cycling.
