The Chancellor has confirmed that the Winter Fuel Payment system will be subjected to cuts. Winter Fuel Payment, which also included a Pensioner Cost of Living Payment, provided between £250 and £600 depending on the claimants eligibility during the winter period to help support those who would end up spending more on their energy bills.

Rachel Reeves told the House of Commons today (July 29) said it was a difficult decision to make but was "the responsible thing to do".

Previously, the payments were available to all people above the State Pension Age, but now it will be more restricted. Ms Reeves told the Commons that "Those not in receipt of pension credit or certain other means tested benefits will no longer receive the winter fuel payment from this year onward".

Only those claiming Pension Credit or some means-tested benefits will definitely be eligible for Winter Fuel Payments following the Chancellor's announcement.
