direct to your inbox The huge roadworks project on Hyde Road in Gorton is set to be completed in late January it has been confirmed.
However a full weekend closure of the road will be needed next month ahead of its full re-opening. The £5.9 million project to widen the stretch of the A57 near Debdale Park, previously a notorious bottleneck, began in January.
Since then a historic former railway bridge, part of the Fallowfield Loop, has been removed and replaced with a modern footbridge.Once finished the number of lanes of traffic on the stretch which runs from Manchester to Denton in Tameside will increase from two to four, which council chiefs say will reduce congestion and a result reduce air pollution.Bosses say they have managed to keep.
