Brian Steinberg Senior TV Editor Fox is taking the Super Bowl to a new frontier — or, at least to one that is new for Fox. Fox Sports will stream its February 9 telecast of Super Bowl LIX on its sister broadband outlet Tubi, a change from the recent past when the company made a stream available via Fox Sports digital outlets.
The move will no doubt spotlight Tubi, a free, ad-supported streaming hub that has gained traction even as many of Fox’s rivals rely more heavily on subscription based broadband outlets.
Tubi’s stream will be available in 4K. The Super Bowl will be distributed across Fox, Fox Deportes and NBCUniversal’s Telemundo, as well as NFL digital properties.
Viewers will not have to pay a subscription fee or be a subscriber to a cable or satellite system to gain access. All the different windows are expected to utilize the same load of commercials as the broadcast airing of the event.
