Four students killed after car they were in crashed and ploughed into shop

Police have named the four young victims who lost their lives in a devastating car crash in the early hours of Saturday morning.The smash was so bad the car make was said to be unrecognisable.The group – all students at the University of Essex – were killed when their car, a black Ford Focus, smashed into a second-hand shop on Magdalen Street in Essex just before 4.40am.Emergency services raced to the scene, but the vehicle had ploughed deep into the building, leaving firefighters forced to build a temporary platform to retrieve the bodies of the driver and three passengers.All four were pronounced dead at the scene.Essex Police have now confirmed the victims as Makyle Bayley, 22, Eva Darold-Tchikaya, 21, Anthony Hibbert, 24, and 22-year-old Daljang Wol.Maria Fasli, Vice Chancellor of the University of Essex, described the deaths as a “devastating loss” for the university community.

She said: “These were young lives filled with hope, promise, talent, and dreams for the future. “They all played an active role in our community through clubs and societies and were well-known around the University.

Anthony and Daljang were outstanding members of our Essex Rebels men’s basketball team, Makyle was a talented player in our BUCS basketball team, and Eva was heavily involved in the Essex Blades Dance Club.“Their loss will be felt by their families and closest friends and by all our university community.”She added that a remembrance event will be held in the coming days to honour their memory.Essex Police have launched an investigation into the tragic smash and are appealing for anyone who saw the black Ford Focus being driven in the area to come forward.Temporary Assistant Chief Constable Stuart Hooper said: “This will be an
