Four men arrested after woman sexually assaulted in alleged hate crime in gay village

Four men have been arrested on suspicion of a hate-related sexual assault in a popular gay village. Police report that a woman was assaulted and threatened with a knife in the early hours of the morning.

Birmingham Live reports that the incident took place yesterday with the victim, who was in her 20's, subjected to a vicious assault, both verbally and physically.

She was also allegedly threatened with a knife just before 5.30am on January 8 in Birmingham's Gay Village.West Midlands Police say the alleged incident on Hurst Street was spotted by CCTV operators.

A spokesperson said: "Our CCTV operators spotted the suspicious activity and when the crime was reported almost an hour later, they were able to back-track on the CCTV and direct officers to the suspects."The four, aged between 18 and 22, remain in custody for questioning.
