Foul play as golf course shelter is destroyed during drinks party

A remote golf course hut used for a drinking party ended up smashed to the ground.Erskine Golf Club was left stunned when the wooden shelter was wrecked at the weekend.It’s thought yobs staged the booze up on Saturday night.Don't miss the latest headlines from around Renfrewshire.

Sign up to our newsletters here.And it’s all the more surprising as no homes are near the spot.The land is closer to Bishopton than Erskine and borders the Mar Hall golf development.The wooden shelter has a corrugated metal roof and acted as a weather refuge for players in a clearing next to one of the fairways.The 118-year-old club has been angered at the senseless destruction.It appears a lump of concrete was used to smash the wooden supports into pieces.A number of lager bottles and cider cans litter the scene.Club secretary Christine Campbell was unavailable for comment earlier today.But a post on the club’s Facebook said: “Why do people feel the need to behave like this?”Club supporters have rallied round to express their anger.Ewan MacLeod said the incident is “so disheartening” and staff at Cochrane Castle Golf Course in Johnstone said it is “absolutely outrageous”.David Clark added: “There is no need for stuff like that.”Download the FREE Renfrewshire Live app now for all the latest news, features and sport in your area.
