A former rugby ace will be extradited to New Zealand to stand trial over a rape allegation from three decades ago. Chris Budgen, 47, agreed to face trial over the alleged attack in his home town in 1991, when he was 18.
He was born in New Zealand and served in its army before moving here in the 1990s. Budgen became a lance corporal in the Royal Welsh Regiment, serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, and played for top rugby sides Northampton Saints and Exeter Chiefs.
The prop appeared alongside England legends like Ben Cohen and Matt Dawson. And he became the oldest try scorer in Premiership rugby history in 2012, aged 39.
It is understood New Zealand police reopened the rape probe in 2010 and travelled here to take a DNA sample in 2015. Charges
