Derek Chauvin has been charged with murder. The former Minneapolis police officer, who was seen on video using his knee to pin down George Floyd sparking outrage and protests across the country, has been charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter, Minnesota Public Safety Commissioner John Harrington announced in a press conference on Friday (May 29).
He did not have information about the charges or the status of the other three officers who were at the scene of George‘s arrest, where he was killed after repeatedly saying “I can’t breathe.” Protestors are demanding that all of the four officers be arrested.
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz said in a separate press conference that the protests were due to “generations of pain, of anguish”
