Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins' death 'could be drug related', police say

Columbian police have said that the death of Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins “could be drug related”. The musician was found dead in a hotel room at the Casa Medina in the north of Columbia’s capital Bogota on Friday, 25 March.

In a statement shared by several Columbian newspapers, The Metropolitan Police of Bogata said: "The cause of death has yet to be established. “According to those close to him, the death could be related to the consumption of drugs.” The drummer, 50, had spoken openly in the past about drug use.

He revealed on Beats 1 in 2018 that he had overdosed on heroin in the early '00s. He said: “I was partying a lot. I wasn't a junkie per se, but I was partying.There was a year where the partying just got a little too heavy. "Thank God on some level this guy gave me the wrong line with the wrong thing one night and I woke up going, 'What the f**k happened?' That was a real changing point for me." Taylor began his career by touring with stars including Alanis Morisette and later joined the successful band Foo Fighters in 1997.
