Flu killing six times more people than coronavirus as deaths lowest since March

Flu and pneumonia is now killing six times as many people as coronavirus, new figures reveal. Latest data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) revealed the viral illnesses killed 1,013 people in England and Wales in the week up to August 7.

This is compared to 152 patients who lost their lives to coronavirus. On Tuesday, Britain recorded another 1,089 coronavirus cases as the daily average fell for the third day in a row.

Officials told how there had been 12 lab confirmed deaths in the previous 24 hours from Covid-19 – the lowest since lockdown.
