Five tips for staying safe in a thunderstorm as Scotland issued yellow weather warning

Scotland has seen a yellow thunderstorm weather warning across most of the country which is set to remain in place until the afternoon of Monday August 12.The Met Office has warned that the bad weather could cause some "disruption and damage to infrastructure" during Monday and has urged people in affected areas to put a safety plan in place for the potential dangerous scenarios that could occur.It's been advised that flooding, power cuts or high winds that could cause damage to properties or citizens may take place as a result of the thunderstorms which are expected to produce a combination of frequent lightning, heavy rain, hail and short periods of strong winds.Affected regions and local authorities across Scotland include Central, Tayside & Fife, Grampian, Highlands & Eilean Siar, Strathclyde, SW Scotland, Lothian Borders and Orkney & Shetland.

The Met Office has recommended that everyone stays up to date with the weather forecast in their local area as the warnings may change quickly alongside four tips for staying safe in a thunderstorm.
