A popular Scottish Zoo which is known for rescuing animals has shared its sadness after one of its most inspiring wee recent arrivals sadly passed away.

Little lamb Oreo – named for her distinctive little tuft of white fur on her forehead – arrived at the Five Sisters Zoo (FSZ) in West Lothian after being born with deformed front legs.

The brave little animal had been cared for by her farmer but needed a little extra help so zoo staff stepped in to provide her with as much specialist medical care as she needed.Sadly, Oreo, who the team described as a little fighter couldn't overcome the challenges life had put in her way.Posting on Facebook, the FSZ team shared their sadness at losing her: "We were very sad to lose Oreo our very special adopted lamb in the early hours of this morning, while in the vet’s care."Despite being born with leg deformities she was such a little fighter and anyone who ever met Oreo couldn’t help but fall in love with her, she was so special."They added that they had hoped she could make it, with the round-the-clock care and hand rearing work by their team but that tragically she had crossed "the Rainbow Bridge"."Sadly, she had a poor immune system," stated the team. "And despite antibiotics and veterinary treatment she eventually couldn’t cope and needed to be put to sleep.

We will miss her but were grateful to be able to try our best to give her a chance."The zoo's followers were gutted by the news but thanked the team for trying to give her a good life. One wrote: "So sad.
