Up to five more Tory MPs are considering jumping ship to Labour, according to reports.Christian Wakeford rocked Westminster by defecting to Keir Starmer’s party yesterday - citing dissatisfaction with Boris Johnson as the reason for his decision.

The Prime Minister’s future is in the balance over the scandal of Downing Street parties during lockdown. A critical report into the controversy is due soon and Johnson is likely to face a confidence vote by Tory MPs.Wakeford, a so-called Red Wall MP, added to Johnson’s woes by switching parties ahead of Prime Minister’s Questions. The Daily Telegraph has reported that other Tory MPs elected in 2019 could follow Wakeford. One MP was quoted: “I have been speaking to other friends across the floor who are incredibly disillusioned and are feeling more and more like the future would be under a Keir Starmer government than a Boris Johnson one.”On BBC Scotland’s Good Morning Scotland programme, Labour chair Anneliese Dodds was asked how many Tory MPs they were in talks with. She replied: “I'm not going to do that.

That wouldn't be correct. Of course, we need to see more Labour MPs because we need to make sure that we are able to win those votes against the Conservative government when they're doing so little to support people at the moment.”Meanwhile, Health Secretary Sajid Javid has said Tory MP David Davis’s brutal call for Johnson to resign has been “damaging” to the Prime Minister. In the Commons on Wednesday, Davis urged Johnson to stand aside, telling him “In the name of God, go”.Javid told Sky News: “It is damaging, of course it is.” To sign up to the Daily Record Politics newsletter, click here.
