Fire investigation teams remain at the scene of a devastating house blaze that left a man dead and a child fighting for their life in hospital.

Neighbours woke up to the sound of screams before emergency services descended on the scene of the raging fire at a semi-detached house along Warrington Road in the early hours of Sunday morning (April 14).

One man died, with five others injured. One of the injured persons, a child, was rushed to hospital in a life-threatening condition from the scene. Pictures taken at the scene showed a badly damaged and scorched roof after the flames were eventually put out. A probe was launched to investigate the cause of the blaze.
