Fire investigation teams remain at the scene of a devastating house blaze that left a man dead and a child fighting for their life in hospital.

Neighbours woke up to the sound of screams before emergency services descended on the scene of the raging fire at a semi-detached house along Warrington Road in the early hours of Sunday morning (April 14).

One man died, with five others injured. One of the injured persons, a child, was rushed to hospital in a life-threatening condition from the scene. READ MORE Neighbours wake up to 'screams' as fire tears through home with man dead and another fighting for their life The Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service confirmed on Sunday that the fire first broke out in the kitchen of the home, at around 2.30am, before then spreading up to the roof.

Pictures taken at the scene showed a badly damaged and scorched roof after the flames were eventually put out. A probe was launched to investigate the cause of the blaze.
