Fire crews race to Glasgow Airport runway after emergency landing amid 'burning smell'

An American Airlines flight declared a mid-air emergency as it flew over Orkney before diverting to Glasgow Airport.The AAL71 flight from Frankfurt, Germany, to Dallas in Texas sent out the 7700 squawk code following reports of a ‘strong burning smell’ in the cabin shortly after 11am on Sunday.The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner turned south and safely landed on the runway at around 12.25pm, where it was met by at least four fire engines and paramedics.The exact circumstances of the incident are not currently known.The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they were called to assist at the airport but crews have since been stood down.
