Football could undergo yet another change to its laws, with the offside rule potentially being adapted in a bid to make decisions simpler for officials.
The proposal, which is being driven by former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger in his role as FIFA's Chief of Global Football Development, is designed to make the rule easier to understand and less controversial.
The current offside rule states that a player is offside when they are in the opponents' half and, when the ball is played, any part of the body is closer to the opponents' goal line than both the ball and the second-last opponent.
Currently, a player can be adjudged to be offside if any part of their body - apart from the hands or arm - is ahead of the second-last opponent, including the goalkeeper.
