Fans return at Wembley as 8,000 in attendance for Carabao Cup final

Wembley Stadium played host to 8,000 fans for the Carabao Cup final on Sunday afternoon. The contest between Manchester City and Tottenham was just the second match to be played in front of supporters at England's home since the coronavirus pandemic began.

The welcome sight of fans walking down Wembley Way and taking up their seats at the 90,000-seater stadium provides an encouraging glimpse at a gradual return to normality ahead of this summer's European Championship.

While 4,000 supporters attended Leicester and Southampton's FA Cup semi-final last Sunday, double that number were permitted to attend the Carabao Cup final, which was chosen as a pilot event to trial the return of large audiences to venues.
