The families of NHS heroes who succumb to coronavirus while fighting the disease on the frontline will get £60,000 cash, health secretary Matt Hancock confirmed.
Hancock said loved ones of fallen heroes will get a payout to help them deal with the loss of losing a loved one. He made the announcement during today's No10 briefing and said officials are looking at similar schemes for "other professions who do not have access" to such support.
Mr Hancock said £60,000 would be given to families of NHS and social care workers who died doing "essential work" for the country, adding that it would be similar to a life insurance policy.
