Falkirk women hit by pension changes urged to 'make voices heard' in election

A Falkirk group campaigning for justice for women affected by changes made to their pensions without proper warning has called for the support of candidates in the General Election.

Falkirk ’s Local WASPI Group - part of the national Women Against State Pension Inequality group - is urging women from across the district to make their voices heard ahead of the election on the issue.

This follows a report from the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman which confirmed that many 1950s-born women are entitled to compensation from Westminster, as the government failed to adequately advise them about the impact of changes to their pensions. Read more: Difficulties faced by care experienced young people in Falkirk schools highlighted in new short film An estimated 7,000 women have been impacted in Falkirk, with over 342,000 impacted across Scotland.Anne Campbell, coordinator of the Falkirk WASPI Group said: "The WASPI ladies had been badly let down by the DWP's failure to inform the 3.8 million women, re the state pension age changes, resulting in severe financial loss, as well as mental and emotional health issues.“We were finally vindicated by the PHSO's final report which found that maladministration and lack of communication had taken place.“We are now waiting for all political parties to clarify their position and to include us in their manifesto.

We urge WASPI women across Falkirk to make their voices heard."Toni Giugliano, the SNP candidate for Falkirk, met with WASPI campaigners recently, including SNP councillor Lorna Binnie, and gave them his full backing.
