Face masks are now compulsory in all shops and supermarkets in England, with flouters at risk of £100 fines. Hours before the new measure came into effect at midnight, after much confusion and speculation, the government issued a full list of places where a face covering over your nose and mouth is mandatory.
They will also be compulsory in post offices, banks, indoor shopping centres, and when buying takeaway food and drink, for instance from a cafe.
It's already mandatory on public transport and has been since June 15. Stores can turn away those without a mask - which can just be a a fabric covering, scarf or bandana - and police can issue £100 fines as a "last resort".
