‘Extreme danger’ red rain alert issued for Barcelona days after deadly floods kill over 210 in Spain

An ‘extreme’ red weather warning has been issued for Barcelona today, Monday, November 4, for heavy rain, only days after flash floods killed over 210 people in Spain.

Aemet, the country’s weather agency, has issued an alert for up to 180mm of rain in 12 hours. The warning is in place until 2pm today, later to be replaced by an amber warning for rain.

A yellow warning for thunderstorms has also been issued. Aemet warned people to ‘be very careful’ and to only travel if ‘strictly necessary’.

Posting on X, Aemet’s Catalonia account said: “RED WARNING | Barcelona Coastline. Extreme danger due to torrential rain: a very intense downpour has left 81 l/m² at El Prat airport.
