Storm Eowyn is already causing chaos in Greater Manchester this morning. Fallen trees have blocked Metrolink and rail lines, while roads have been forced to close.

Winds are expected to reach speeds of up to 60mph in the region today, bringing with them 'widespread disruption'. Follow live weather and travel updates here. There is an amber weather warning for wind in place across the region, as Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) has advised people not to drive during the storm.

Gusts could reach up to 100mph in coastal areas of northern Ireland and Scotland today, with a rare red weather warning in place.

The Police Service of Northern Ireland described the storm as an “exceptional weather event” and said it was expected to bring the strongest winds seen in the country since 1998.
