The exact date for when millions of workers will see a pay rise of around £1,000 in their wages has now been confirmed. Earlier this week Chancellor Jeremy Hunt announced that the government is set to increase the national living wage in the UK to more than £11 an hour.
Currently the national living wage stands at £10.42 an hour and dictates the minimum amount that full-time workers aged 23 and over can be paid hourly, with younger workers being paid at a lower rate.
The Chancellor says the living wage will now rise to two-thirds of average earnings, and the pay increase will link to the government's efforts to get roughly 300,000 people to return to the workforce.
On Monday (Oct 2), the Chancellor committed to accept the Low Pay Commission’s recommendations - which will be announced in November.
