Bruno Miguel Borges Fernandes (born 8 September 1994) is a Portuguese footballer who plays for Primeira Liga club Sporting CP and the Portugal national team as a midfielder. Fernandes started his career at Serie B side Novara Calcio and soon featured for Udinese and Sampdoria in Serie A.
In 2017, he signed with Sporting CP where he established himself as one of the best players in the Primeira Liga. He was named the LPFP Primeira Liga Player of the Year in both 2017–18 and 2018–19. In the latter season, he also helped Sporting win the Taça de Portugal. A senior international since 2017, Fernandes represented Portugal at the 2016 Summer Olympics and 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Mikael Silvestre has predicted the battle between Manchester United and Arsenal will be won in midfield, highlighting the trio of Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes and Christian Eriksen as the key to success for Erik ten Hag's side.
The Reds have underwhelmed with displays so far this season having earned only narrow wins over Wolves and Nottingham Forest either side of a loss to Tottenham.
Arsenal are set to provide their toughest test so far despite the Gunners being held to a draw by Fulham on Saturday. United travel to the Emirates without a number of players including Raphael Varane, Luke Shaw and Mason Mount.
It likely means that Victor Lindelof, Diogo Dalot and Eriksen will start. Former United and Arsenal defender Silvestre is not convinced United will have enough defensive resolution to cope with Arsenal on Sunday. “The back four of United is unstable, and they have no left-back currently,” he told bettingexpert.com.
