Motherwell have signed French striker Mikael Mandron on a deal until the end of this season, following his release from English League Two side Gillingham. The 28-year-old had slid down the pecking order at the Kent club, and could go straight into the squad for this afternoon's Premiership crunch at home to Ross County, subject to international clearance.Mandron, who is eligible to play for England, France and Scotland at international level, started his senior career at Sunderland and has been at Eastleigh, Wigan Athletic, Colchester United, two spells at Gillingham, and Crewe Alexandra, while spending loan stints at Fleetwood, Shrewsbury and Hartlepool. He becomes Motherwell's third summer signing of the January window, following winger Olly Crankshaw and defender Shane Blaney.Boss Steven Hammell told Motherwell's website: "From the moment I spoke to Mikael on the phone it was clear he wanted to come."As soon as we established that this move could happen, Mikael travelled off his own back to get to Fir Park as quickly as possible."He offers competition and help for Kevin van Veen, whilst also opening new possibilities to the structure of the team."I'm really happy to get this over the line, as I feel it's an area of the pitch we need additions."Mikael will wear the No.21 shirt for the remainder of this season.Follow Lanarkshire Live Sport onTwitter via@LanLiveSport, like us onFacebookor find us onInstagramfor the latest sports news, pictures and video.
