European travel pass delay explained as launch date unconfirmed for UK tourists

British passport holders will soon require a travel pass to enter 30 European countries, but there is still the question of when this new rule will come into force.

Known as ETIAS - short for European Travel Information and Authorisation System - this extra security measure aims to strengthen border security for both citizens and visitors.

However, the visa waiver has endured several delays since being introduced back in 2016.In fact, EU officials have still not given an exact date when the news system that will British tourists must complete to access certain European counties will come into force.

According to EU's website, the ETIAS is "expected" to be operational by summer 2024.ETIAS was set to launch in 2022 but was delayed due to the Coronavirus pandemic, according to the ETIAS website.
