Erik ten Hag admits Anthony Elanga will pose a threat for Manchester United’s back line against Nottingham Forest. The winger secured a £15m switch from Old Trafford to the East Midlands club this summer and is already preparing to take on his former employers.
The Sweden international is yet to start for Forest but bagged an assist in his club’s opening day defeat to Arsenal. Elanga failed to find favour under Ten Hag at United last season, starting just seven of his 26 appearances.
The academy graduate was deemed surplus to requirements as the Reds tried to build cash reserves for new arrivals this window, although Ten Hag is well aware of the havoc he can wreak. “He’s a kid from Manchester United and he will be really excited about his return,” the United boss said of Elanga when speaking to club media. “He is a great player and offensively a very attractive player as well. We have to look after him and be prepared for him. But as other players from Forest, they have players in the frontline who can make an impact.” Elanga left United after making 55 senior appearances, netting four goals and assists.
