Gareth Southgate has confirmed he's stepping down as England manager after Sunday's defeat in the Euro 2024 final.The 53 year old Three Lions boss, who has led the team for eight years and to back-to-back European Championship finals, will see his contract expire later this year.
He had remained tight-lipped about his future plans throughout the tournament in Germany. Just like at Euro 2020 against Italy, England fell short in the Euros final against Spain.
Gareth has now confirmed that Sunday night's match in Berlin was indeed his swansong, reports the Mirror. After the final whistle, England's WAGs were seen consoling their partners over their defeat.
In an emotional statement, he said: ""As a proud Englishman, it has been the honour of my life to play for England and to manage England.
