England footballer Gemma Wiseman has died at the age of 33, leaving her wife Laura and daughter, aged 3, “devastated”. Gemma was found dead by a member of the public just days before Christmas, with her body discovered on Rackheath, just outside Norwich, on December 16.
An inquest into her death was opened on December 28 at Norfolk Coroner’s Court at County Hall. Gemma represented Team GB in the World Deaf Football Championships in Italy in 2016, with her wife, Laura Wiseman – taking home a bronze medal.The former footballer also won a bronze medal at the 2013 Deaflympics in Bulgaria, and has picked up other accolades as part of Team GB and England.
Gemma has also played for local clubs in East Anglia and also offered her support Norfolk FA’s first inclusive festival for girls.
In recent years, she has worked as a teaching assistant in the city of Norwich. Since her death, a GoFundMe page has raised over £8,000, with a statement reading: “Her family and friends are devastated. “Gemma was a kind and caring person with a great sense of humour.
