Employers who break new self-isolation rules could be slapped with a £1,000 fine in the latest fight against Covid-19. The Government says anyone caught forcing employers into work during the 10-day period will now be hit with a penalty charge.

Employers are already banned from asking self-isolating employees to return to work, but it is now illegal - and it could cost both parties an on-the-spot fine.

It is now a crime to allow workers to travel anywhere outside the place where they are self-isolating. Workers must also tell their employer if they are self-isolating to avoid a £50 charge.
