Emmerdale's Susan Cookson, who plays Wendy Posner in the ITV soap, has revealed that she was "saved" by the show following the death of her husband.The 58 year old has revealed that she was about to give up on her career after her husband, Malcolm Scates, sadly passed away.
Susan was about to retire and was on her way to see a nursing manager to find out how to retrain in that profession when she got the call from Emmerdale.The ITV soap offered her the role of Nurse Wendy out of the blue, and it didn't take long for Susan to say yes.
She told The Mirror: "I was at a bit of a crossroads in my life through one thing and another and I decided that I wanted a more regular job.
I started to think about changing careers and going into nursing. "My husband, who is sadly no longer with us, had been very poorly, and I’d nursed him." The actress then revealed: "I was in my car, about 10 minutes away from this meeting, when my phone went.
