It was announced that the actor, who spent decades playing the beloved Zak Dingle, had passed away at home, aged 77. A statement issued on December 15 confirmed Steve was surrounded by his family when he died after 29 years of service on the ITV soap.
In the statement announcing his death to fans, a spokesperson for ITV said last month that it was 'hard not to smile' when thinking of the Bury-born star.
They said: “It is with deep sadness and a heavy heart that Emmerdale can confirm that Steve Halliwell, our beloved Zak Dingle, has peacefully passed away.
