Coronation Street fans were left devastated on Tuesday’s visit to the cobbles, when Bernie and Gemma Winters finally discovered the truth about Paul Foreman’s intention to take his own life when his illness became too unbearable.

As regular viewers will know, Paul has been battling motor neurone disease, a degenerative neurological condition that will eventually stop him from speaking, eating and even breathing on his own.

In recent weeks his condition has been getting worse, with Paul now requiring a wheelchair to get around and struggling with simple day to day things such as swallowing.

Terrified of losing control and being trapped in his own body, Paul made the decision that he wanted to end his life on his own terms when the time came, and even sought out medication to do this.
