Emmerdale's Emma Atkins has shared her worries about her character's future on the soap. The 48 year old actress, who plays Charity Dingle and has been part of the Emmerdale family since 2000, was shocked when she found out that Charity would become a killer.

On Christmas Day, fans were left stunned when Charity shot Damon 'Harry' Harris (played by Robert Beck) to save her husband Mackenzie Boyd's (played by Lawrence Robb) life.

Now, both Charity and Mack are struggling with their feelings but can't talk to each other about it. Speaking to the Daily Star and other press, Emma said: "When I got the script I was a bit like 'Wow, oh my god, this makes me a killer but I guess what will be will be and you can never really be fearful of these things because if my time in Emmerdale is coming to an end then I will always be OK because that's my job, I've chosen to be an actress and you have to sort of go with the flow." She added: "Yeah I did think at one point 'Oh God, my character has now killed' but when I read the script I realised actually it's an act of love, it's act of self defence and she doesn't do it purposefully. There's no intent to kill so that made me feel a bit better but I guess I'm quite open to quite crazy things about happening to my character otherwise I wouldn't be able to deal with half of the stuff my character has done." Charity is feeling worn out after another sleepless night and loses her temper with Moses Dingle (Arthur Cockroft).
