Scores of homes have been left without water and businesses have been forced to close after a burst water main in Bury. The pipe began leaking on Hornby Street near the town centre earlier this morning.
It saw water running through the subway running underneath Peel Way to Parsons Lane near the Tesco superstore, leaving the roads flooded.
United Utilities have now drafted in emergency water tankers as work to fix the issue gets underway. Coun Tamoor Tariq, deputy leader of Bury Council and ward councillor for Redvales, said: "Issue has been caused by a burst water pipe near the centre of Bury.

"United Utilities working to get emergency supplies going & main supplies are to be sorted by lunchtime today. @BuryCouncil are in direct contact." He later added: "@unitedutilities have arranged for water tankers to arrive to pump emergency water (as a temporary measure), so people have some form of running water.
